WHAT IS LAUGHTER YOGA?
LAUGHTER YOGA IS A GREAT AEROBIC EXERCISE THAT UTILIZES THE DIAPHRAGM AND REQUIRES DEEP BREATHING. IT IS A GREAT EXERCISE TO MAINTAIN OR INCREASE LUNG CAPACITY, INCREASE OXYGEN FLOW, LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE, RELIEVE STRESS AND JUST HAVE A GREAT TIME!
HOW DOES LAUGHTER YOGA WORK?
Laughter Yoga is a practice involving prolonged voluntary laughter. This type of yoga is based on the belief that voluntary laughter provides the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter. It is done in groups, with eye contact, jokes and playfulness between participants. Forced laughter often turns into real and contagious laughter.
Laughter Yoga is performed without any humorous reason to laugh, with one practitioner observing that "The mind does not know that we’re faking it."
Laughter yoga sessions may start with gentle warm-up techniques which include stretching, chanting, clapping, eye contact and body movement, to help break down inhibitions and encourage a sense of playfulness. Breathing exercises are used to prepare the lungs for laughter, followed by a series of ‘laughter exercises’ that combine the method of acting and visualization techniques with playfulness. Laughter exercises are interspersed with breathing exercises. Twenty minutes of laughter is sufficient to develop fully physiological benefits.
BENEFITS OF LAUGHTER YOGA
Laughter Yoga has been shown to decrease cortisol, the body's stress hormone. When this hormone is elevated it can cause issues like high blood pressure, weight gain, and memory loss. It also increases endorphins, which lowers pain in the body.

WHY IT MATTERS
The Sid Foundation raises money for lung transplant patients as well as research and development.
The Sid Foundation is named after Sid Vahal whose lungs collapsed for no apparent reason. He ended up having to get a double lung transplant which unfortunately allowed him only 2 and half more years of life.
Lung Transplantation has the lowest survival rate of all organ transplantations. Only around 50% of patients live longer than 5 years after having a lung transplant and patients have to take up to 50 pills a day.
Lung transplant procedures could be much more efficient and patients could live a lot longer if hospitals had enough money and time to give to making lung transplantation more efficient. However not enough attention is being paid to this common and underfunded procedure.
The Sid Foundation truly cares about lung transplant patients as well as lung health for all, so we decided to try to help more people by hosting free laughter yoga sessions to make people's lungs stronger along with raising funds for lung transplant patients as well as research and development. So please sign up for a free laughter yoga session today.
