As many of your know, at The Sid Foundation, we begin each year by celebrating Sid Vahal’s birthday on January 2nd. Today, Sid would have been 38 years old. To learn more about his story, click here.

We hope the new year brings joy and prosperity to you all. In celebration of the new year, we would like to recap our 2022 accomplishments and share our goals for 2023 with you.

2022 Accomplishments
You may or may not know that 2022 started out as a rough year for our organization. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we lost most of our funding and had to put our programs on hold. We had to slow down our operation, but we did not think of shutting down The Sid Foundation for one second. We know our work is important, so we tried our best to keep the organization running. The year 2022, was the year in which we were finally able to come back into full operation and start recovering from the pandemic. We are happy to announce that we made great strides despite our low funding. Here are all the things we accomplished in 2022:
  1. We relaunched out Lung Transplant Patient Support program. We started raising funds for this program and began sending out care packages to lung transplant patients all over the country again.
  2. We received a grant from S&S Activewear. They sent us high quality merchandise that was worth up to $2,000. This included 25 drawstring bags and socks for our lung transplant patient care packages and other products for our employees and volunteers. We are very excited to have them on board as a corporate sponsor for our care package program!
  3. We began a great partnership with Syndicate Comics and Collectibles at the Cobb Antique Mall. They are one of the largest comic book stores in the metro-Atlanta area and are helping us sell Lung Girl comics to raise funds for our organization. This will help us raise awareness about lung health and lung transplants in our community. The funds raised from the sales of the comics will help lung transplant patients pay medical bills and fund lung transplant research. We’re so happy to have the support of our community and look forward to growing this partnership in 2023!
  4. Lung Girl comics was featured by the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center as one of the best holiday gifts in their Holiday Gift Guide for 2022. We were so excited to be featured by them!
  5. We received a second grant from Whole Foods Market Community Giving Program! These funds support our Lung Transplant Patient Support program. They will allow us to hold more fundraisers for lung transplant patients to help them pay medical bills and to send out more care packages in 2023.
  6. We increased individual donations this year for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.
  7. We increased sales of Lung Girl comics for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.
These were our biggest highlights from 2022. We could not have achieved any of this without your support.

2023 Goals
We have many exciting things planned for 2023! This year we will…
  1. Continue to create more educational content to increase awareness in our community about lung health.
  2. Send out at least 25 care packages to lung transplant patients around the country.
  3. Share more stories of individual lung transplant patients and hold fundraisers to help them pay medical bills.
  4. Participate in more community events. You will see us around our community more this year at events such as comic cons. At these events, we will raise awareness for the importance of lung transplant research and lung health. We will sell Lung Girl comics and raise funds for lung transplant patients and lung transplant research.
  5. Apply for more grants. We were very excited to receive two grants in 2022. We will continue to apply for more grants to help us fund our work.
  6. We are planning on restarting regular laughter yoga classes in 2022. We want to help our community improve their lung health through laughter yoga. (This will be dependent on the state the pandemic.)
  7. Continue to increase sales of Lung Girl comics through marketing and community events.
  8. Donate to lung transplant research programs around the country again. We had to pause this program due to pandemic. Our goal is to resart this program in 2023.
  9. Increase individual donations and corporate sponsors.
We are excited to get to work on these and have full confidence that we can achieve them with your support.

Once again, a huge thank you to our individual donors and corporate sponsors for continuing to support our work and our community. Thank you for helping lung transplant patients breathe a little easier.

If you would like to help us grow and continue supporting lung transplant patients, please donate.
